Day 18 - Harnas

6 September 2009

Much slower day as it was Sunday.

We also get to sleep in an hour later. Left food prep around 11:00am to join George to go to the local bushmen Church. It was filled with all the farm workers and their kids. Really amazing and inspirational. The minister spoke in Afrikaans with one of the bushmen translating into English for the volunteers. Also nice to see Marieta and her son Schalk there as well as their friends who came for the weekend. It was also great that I could understand Afrikaans and speak to the workers. They are such down to earth people.

Got back to camp at noon for lunch and meeting back on the farm at 13:00pm for Boere sport. We competed in our teams which was hard as mine was so lazy. We had to do everything from rope pulling (which snapped, VERY funny), egg on a spoon race, jumping in a bag race and dung spitting. The best part was that afterwards Schalk gave us permission to jump into the guest pool by the lapa. It was GREAT since it was so hot. Although wet pants are never fun.

Had the rest of the day off and watched the guys play rugby against the bushmen on the runway as the sun was setting. Played with my usuals again and had a great dinner of chutney chicken on rice. The lapa also made a chocolate cake for Ruth's birthday which was so amazing. She is such a nice girl and she shared it with all 50 volunteers! Played some card games with the girls and to bed early-ish! Cant believe its my last week!
